Grooming FAQ's

We’re so excited to welcome you and your pet to The Dog Pawlour! Below are answers to some common questions to help you feel fully prepared for your grooming appointment.

Most appointments take 3–4 hours. We stagger bookings to give each dog breaks and a low-stress experience. If your dog needs more time due to coat condition, temperament, or other factors, your groomer will let you know. For quicker service, ask about our Rush Groom option (1–1.5 hours, $20–$30), available for morning appointments only.

Yes! To protect our groomers’ time and ensure fairness for all clients, we do have a cancellation policy in place:

  • All grooming appointments require a signed Reservation Cancellation Policy and a credit card on file to secure your reservation. This helps us hold your spot and apply any applicable fees as outlined in the policy.

  • Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice will incur a 50% service fee, as these last-minute changes leave us unable to refill the appointment, directly affecting our groomers’ income and schedule.

We’re happy to provide a copy of your signed agreements upon request.

If you’re going to be late, give us a call. Arrivals more than 15 minutes late may incur a $10 late fee. If you’re over 30 minutes late, we may need to reschedule, and a same-day cancellation fee will apply.

Yes — per PACFA (Pet Animal Care Facilities Act) regulations, we are required to have proof of current vaccinations on file before your pet can be groomed.

  • Dogs over 8 weeks old must have current Distemper and Parvovirus vaccines.

  • Dogs and cats over 16 weeks old must have a current Rabies vaccine.

  • Cats over 8 weeks old must have a current FVRCP vaccine (Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, and Panleukopenia).

If your pet is exempt from vaccines due to medical reasons, we must receive a signed statement from a licensed veterinarian.

Yes! You’re welcome to drop off early, but grooming may not begin until your scheduled appointment time.

Definitely! Treats are a great way to reinforce a positive grooming experience. Feel free to bring your own — we don’t offer treats due to allergy concerns, but we do sell a variety in-store.

We’ll call or text you as soon as your dog is finished. If you’re on a schedule, let us know at drop-off and we’ll do our best to give you a heads-up when they’re almost done.

  • Your pup can hang out with us until closing time (6 PM weekdays, 5 PM Saturdays). We’ll make sure they’re comfy and have access to water.

Yes, please let us know the name, dosage, and time of administration for any calming or pain-relief medication (like Trazodone, Gabapentin, or Fluoxetine).

We do not groom pets that have been given Acepromazine.

We ask that dogs in heat be rescheduled. Bathing during this time can increase the risk of infection, and we want to keep your pet safe.

Please check with your veterinarian first. For spay/neuter procedures, we recommend waiting at least 2 weeks before grooming. For your pet’s safety, we may require a vet note or clearance confirming they are okay to be groomed.
